What maintenance is truly necessary running E85? What to do...and when...and how often. My car is for sale but if I choose to keep it I woukd like ZERO issues moving forward. Thanks!! Scott
I was told that my E85 tune did NOT allow anything other than E85....way too much timing etc...help me understand how I am supposed to run gas...and why. Thanks!!!! Scott
I know there is a additive you can put in that helps here is the link https://www.google.com/search?q=e85...UoAQ&biw=360&bih=559#spd=13563654375648107364 and obviously change your fuel filter
You switch to your pump tune, then back to E85 tune once your done running pump. Some run pump to lube the system and/or to stop "corrosion" when sitting for long periods. However some run E85 24/7 for extended periods and have zero issues... So you be the judge.
Your tuner can give you 2 tunes. One for the highest octane in your area with reduced timing and one for E85. Every once in a while run pure gas through the car, add torco to the tank if you need more octane. When I run my gas tune I dont race anyone, just cruise. You should also change your Oil more often when running E85.
Sell? Don't do it SCOTT!! Lol. Sounds like a Z is in your future. You need to keep it until I can get you out for that cruise.
I use straight toluene with 4 oz of Marvel Mystery oil per gallon (for injector lube) to raise octane. Toluene is typically 114 to 118 (R+M)/2 and is used extensively in unleaded fuels to raise octane. There is a lot of data on it for use as octane boost. Just google toluene. Holler back if you have questions. Hope this helps. Mike
You need to have 2 tunes. One for E85 an another for pump gas 91+. Just running a full tank of good gas once a month will keep your car fine. Check the fuel filter evey oil change. Ive been running E85 for 3 years havent had any issues.
E85 24/7 daily driven, zero issues and 12,000 miles...going to change the fuel filter for the first time in 2 weeks.
I plan on the 24/7 approach. I do plan on incorporating this on all of our E85 cars, just need to find which option they offer will package easiest in the GT500: http://fstperformance.com/ I plan on a 93 street tune/E85 street tune/E85 race tune. Probably only run 93 in a pinch or if I take an extended road trip. SCT makes it easy to switch, some tuning options (google Livernois split personality tuner) are even easier on the fly. Don't know ya Scott, but that seems like a [email protected] mod list, hard to replace that power. -J
Thank you...I need to look in to my "93" tune and make sure it is spot on...I have come so far...don't want to mess anything up...lol. The more I think about it...I may keep my car and throw a KB 3.6 on and have some fun....seems like the natural thing to do with a L&M engine... Cheers!! Scott
No problem. I think once you're used to the extra performance (and safety piece of mind) on E85 you would rarely use the 93 tune except in a pinch when no E85 available or on long highway trips, and in those cases, I will just activate chill mode and cruise ;-) And yes, totally agree with you on utilizing the L&M. -J
