On my Hellion Saleen I just had a custom 3" exhaust welded up with Borla S-Type mufflers. It sounds good, but it is surprisingly quiet. This is my first turbo mustang, from what I've been told the Turbo really quiets things down. I'm currently scheduled to have a electronic cut out installed off the down pipe by my fab shop on Monday.

What are you guys running for exhaust and how's it sound? I'm sure the cut out will wake the dead, but I may want to swap out the S type mufflers for something a little louder.

    Looking forward to your input.

Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers here. I had the same questions, and was told many turbo guys run the Ultra Flos. I really like the sound. Pretty quiet and reserved, until you get on it.

I have a twin turbo system with a full 3" exhaust with Dynomax Bullet mufflers and turndowns. There is no X or H pipe, as there is no need or benefit.

It is loud, but deep. I think it sounds great and a definite departure from the typical mod motor sound.

I had a single turbo foxbody. It had a 3 1/2" downpipe that expanded to a single 4" exhaust with a 4" Dynomax Bullet and turndown. It was very loud, but very deep.

I did two 2.5 inch cut outs for a total of 5 inches. Its more efficient than 1 single imo but two each his own.

It will not be loud at all. In fact, with the dumps open and cruising it will much more quiet than most NA cars with any sort of exhaust. It won't wake the dead at all! Especially if u place them directly under the car like I did. If u have a side exit exhaust it will be much louder.

My buddy just did a side exit exhaust with a 5 inch electric cut out. Pretty dope looking but I try to keep mine as unsuspecting as possible so I had it put underneath. Plus ur passenger, if u have one, doesn't have to eat exhaust fumes every time u smash the pedal lol.

The way it sounds is basically gonna be dictated by ur mufflers. Turbo set ups quiet things down tremediously cause the Turbo acts as muffler sort of. With the dumps closed the mufflers I have actually also sound really good with the dumps closed so either way they sound great.

But I will say when in WOT the open dumps are REALLY loud but cruising but no louder than an NA setup with a decent exhaust. In fact, when I cruise I rarely even close the dumps cause its just about the same sound closed or open but I am an audiophile and am currently upgrading my current stereo sound system to a competition set up with SQ components so closing the dumps will make things a little better.

I found that the quietest muffler was also the heaviest and the MBRP seemed to be the lightest. I mean shit, a good quiet muffler can weigh 15 lbs and most need two of em. The MBRP only weighs 5 lbs.

My car has these and nothing sounds better imo MBRP Universal 4" Quiet Tone Muffler

Its rated here as #1 https://soundproofnation.com/quietest-performance-muffler/

It will be much louder with the cutout. I use Loudvalves that are controlled via my Holley Dominator. They open automatically at anything over 30% throttle using the air from my onboard air compressor and a solenoid. Very nice and quiet driving, but loud when it's time to party.

That’s a great idea, but the outputs on my Holley HP are maxed. Unless there is something I’m missing, the Holley HP really limits my outputs to like 4 Is and they aren’t all 12v.

I’ll look into that when I have V5 opened up again, thanks for the idea.

i still haven’t swapped mufflers yet, but I did get the cut out done. If this doesn’t scratch the itch I’ll swap mufflers.

here is how it turned out, I still need to wire it up, so I’ll finally hear it tomorrow.

So, the downpipe splits into 2 pipes and then back to 1 pipe and the exhaust cut-out is in a pipe that ties into the downpipe before the split?

That's an interesting way of doing it. I wonder what affect, if any, the additional cut-out pipe has on exhaust flow when closed.

Yea, it's a bit Dr. Seusse.. The Hellion kit splits the exhaust into 2 smaller pipes then rejoins them. I then split them again into 2 3" when I did the rest. I assume to increase ground clearance after the down pipe. As for turbulence where it dead ends when closed, no idea. Hopefully nothing, but we will see.

Here’s a short clip of the cut out and S type mufflers.

I've got a twin setup, 3" to the midpipe (for now), then still have the old 2.5" setup from the X-pipe back with some half rotted out flowmasters. Pretty much sounds like an NA car. A little rowdy at full tilt but nowhere near its power level.

I'd love to run cutouts on the downpipes, but it sounded pretty terrible when I had some of the exhaust fall apart. Anyone with twins running a true dual with no crossover (i.e. no h or x pipe) for their full exhaust setup?

I vote cut a hole in the front bumper and run a down pipe right out of the exhaust side of the turbo

No. No videos. I'm not quite sure how to accurately describe it.

It sounds similar to an AC Cobra, only deeper and with an undertone of turbo.
